1979年毕业于宁夏医学院医疗系, 1985年宁夏医学院获生理学硕士学位，1992年赴荷兰留学，1996年获荷兰Amsterdam 大学博士学位，1996-1998荷兰皇家科学院脑研究所博士后。在NATURE等SCI期刊发表论文100余篇。现任中国科学技术大学生命学院教授。兼任中国神经科学学会常务理事、中国神经科学学会认知神经生物学分会主任委员；安徽省神经科学学会理事长；第四届国家重点基础研究发展计划领域专家咨询组成员。
